I wonder what Sly is implying?

Saturday, May 22nd, 2004

Croom regards review of Templeton as hassle - The Clarion-Ledger:
“It (Thursday’s decision by the College Board) made me feel uncomfortable. It’s something I have no control of, but I was somewhat disappointed because I really think we’re moving in the right direction.”
Surely he isn’t implying the LT saga is a result of his hiring? [...]

Preseason Crack

Friday, May 21st, 2004

The Tennessean has a sneak peak of all the preseason football mags set to hit the stands this summer:
Lindy’s Southeastern is due out on Wednesday. In the SEC East, Lindy’s picks: No. 1 Georgia, 2 Tennessee, 3 Florida, 4 South Carolina, 5 Kentucky, 6 Vanderbilt.
In the West Lindy’s picks: No. 1 LSU, 2 Auburn, 3 [...]

Football el-cheapos

Friday, May 21st, 2004

Guess who’s in the top TWO cheapest BCS schools in terms of football expenditures. Damn, you’re smart. Kevin Donahue has it on his Big East Blog. Is there any wonder MSU has been in the black for 17 straight years. To paraphrase what Ferris Bueller once said about his friend Cameron: [...]

More Henig

Friday, May 21st, 2004

Montgomery Advertiser: Alabama football all-stars will rely on depth.
Henig will report to Mississippi State on July 5 and begin summer school on July 7. He calls the Alabama-Mississippi High School All-Star Classic a “whole different experience” that will help prepare him for his freshman season at Mississippi State.
“Normally, you’ve got some number ones from the [...]

ONE YEAR

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

“The heat is on, on the streetInside your head, on every beatAnd the beat’s so loud, deep insideThe pressure’s high, just to stay alive‘Cause the heat is on”
How does the hot seat feel, Lar? The Clarion Ledger and AP report that LT received a one year extension instead of the 4 years that Dr. [...]

Power struggle engulfs MSU

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

Jim Mashek has a good piece on the ongoing saga in the Athletic Department. Mashek has pretty good sources, so he’s probably dead on with the main case against Larry Templeton. Things don’t look good for ole Larr’.
“All I can tell you is we’ll take it into executive session and hammer it out,” [...]

Four more years of LT?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2004

It seems so, however Larry Templeton has his detractors.
I hope they are successful at ousting the athletic director. It’s obvious there was little oversight of the football team during the Sherrill years. Also fundraising and Bulldog Club membership growth are stagnant. The AD is stuck in the mid 80’s.
It’s time to move [...]

Uniform update.

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

Okay, not an update, but after doing a little research on our new uniforms - the latest rumor is silver helmets, M-State logo, maroon jerseys similar to the 49er’s without the stripes, and silver pants - I found this website. No info on State, but bizarre nontheless.
FLASHBACK: QC models what could part of the [...]

I like Coach Croom

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

This is why:
“I think we came a long way,” he said. “I think we had some great leadership from three seniors - (defensive tackle) Ron Fields, (offensive tackle) David Stewart and (wide receiver) McKinley Scott. I think Omarr Conner had a good spring at quarterback.
“I think the players learned what the Bulldog work ethic [...]

Lowering expectations

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

Jim Tompkins, Coordinator of Player Relations
You’ve been at Mississippi State for a long time and you’ve been in coaching for a long time. What advice would you give to the fans about what to expect from the new era?“I would tell the fans to be patient. Don’t expect miracles. Expect slow, but steady progress.”
I like [...]

Polk still has regional hopes

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

Polk still has regional hopes - The Clarion-Ledger:
“The precedent was set,” Polk said Monday. “Maybe they took some grief over that. I don’t know. Men’s tennis got all 12 (SEC) teams in the NCAA Tournament. I don’t think the tennis committee says, ‘We have to be politically correct and geographically sound. Let’s spread this out [...]

State chokes away another series sweep.

Sunday, May 16th, 2004

But the Dawgs keep SEC Tourney hopes alive:
To qualify for the eight-team SEC Tournament, MSU must sweep Alabama in its final conference series. The Bulldogs also must have Florida sweep Tennessee and Auburn lose at least one game in its weekend series with Arkansas.

Bama signees out, Henig in at MS-AL Allstar game.

Sunday, May 16th, 2004

So far, seven University of Alabama football signees have bowed out of the annual all-star game. That makes room for MSU QB signee Micheal Henig. It should be interesting to see how he does.

Ouch.

BCS DREAMS: Villanova, which has wins over Rutgers and Temple over the past two seasons, is the only I-AA school to defeat a BCS-level opponent during that stretch. The Wildcats won’t be facing such a foe in ‘04, so below is a list of some of those with a realistic shot of carrying the torch: [...]
