More recruiting.

The Pensacola News Journal reports Pensacola HS Senior Athlete Adron Chambers (5′-11″, 185) committed to Mississippi State.

On the way up there, I wasn’t even thinking about (an offer),” Chambers said. “It wasn’t in my mind as far as committing there or going there. I guess after I got there, things happened.”

Chambers participated in receiving, seven-on-seven and agility drills.

He also posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.3 seconds.

That was enough to convince Mississippi State’s coaches.

During a Wednesday phone conversation, coach Sylvester Croom, who begins his first season at Mississippi State this fall, offered a scholarship, and Chambers accepted.

“The night I was over there (in Starkville), I just felt like I was at home,” said Chambers, who also has been contacted by Auburn, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.

Chambers — projected as a receiver or cornerback in college — said he plans on sticking to his commitment to MSU, even though the commitment is non-binding.

“At Mississippi State, I just felt like it was a good fit for me, academically and athletically,” he said. “I have a spot waiting for me on the field.”

Chambers was set to become the Tigers’ starting quarterback last season before Alex Gordon — who ended up signing a basketball scholarship with Vanderbilt — changed his mind about skipping the football season and joined the team a week before the season opener.

Gordon went on to pass and rush for more than 2,000 combined yards.

Chambers played receiver and backed up Gordon but found it difficult to find game time behind receivers Keith Brown (Alabama signee) and Brian Perkins (Quinn College, Dallas, Texas).

Chambers finished with eight catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns and was 9-of-16 passing for 170 yards.

He’s expected to be the Tigers’ starting quarterback in the fall.

“It’s a little weight off my shoulders,” Chambers said of his early commitment. “I’m glad to get it over with.”

Chambers joins Keith Fitzhugh (5′-10″, 180) of Lovejoy HS (GA) as the Bulldog’s first early commits. BTW, what is Croom’s obsession with guys under 6 feet?
