Say what??

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

The AP reports Templeton offered two-year contract extension. The College Board has decided to extend LT’s contract through June 2007.
So much for reviewing the Athletic Department! Why in the world did we go through this drama last month only to give us another three years of the status quo?

YES!

I think he stays.

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

But what do I know? I think Roberts is desperate to turn pro, so much so that he’s still holding out hope that one team will take a chance on him earlier than what the experts think. This quote found in the C-L says it all:
“I plan to take all the time I [...]

State’s budget increased last year.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

This according to the Sun Herald. MSU’s athletic budget increased by $5.6 million to $28.8 million, a mere $400k behind Ole Miss. Could it be that Larry has reached underneath the mattress and started funding the athletic department properly? Nah. It’s just an accounting quirk caused by an increase in the [...]

More L-Rob.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

I hope Roberts listens to this guy:: George Rodecker of HoopsHype.com wrote: ‘A true first round draftee in the future. Roberts showed flashes of the game many love, but too much of the mediocrity that often permeates his game. Another college season is vital to his development.’

L-Rob coming back?

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

This guy doesn’t think so:
The three most prominent underclassmen who have yet to withdraw their names from NBA draft consideration are also expected to forfeit the remainder of their college eligibility. Guards Delonte West of Saint Joseph’s and Nate Robinson of Washington, and forward Lawrence Roberts of Mississippi State, are by no means probable first-round [...]

Matt Ginter.

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

I found this article on former MSU pitcher Matt Ginter. It seems Matt likes to fiddle. OH-kay. Anway, Matt’s doing well with the New York Mets - he’s 1-0, with a 2.43 ERA in six starts. I had no idea he was in the Bigs.

Not bad.

According to the Clarion-Ledger: “The MSU men tied for 20th place with 15 points…the MSU women tied for 22nd with 10 points.”

Long wait ahead.

Monday, June 14th, 2004

This quote in today’s C-L sums up the next 6-8 weeks:
‘I’ve been through a lot of these and there never has been a way to make that kind of evaluation (on the severity of sanctions),’ Slive said. ‘There isn’t today, either. When (the committee’s report) comes, it comes. Then we’ll know. It’s really fruitless [...]

Sherrill gets his day before infractions committee. Ugh.

Saturday, June 12th, 2004

Sometimes I wish Sherrill would just go away. He talks about the NCAA’s crusade to get him in today’s C-L.
“I think there is a group of people that went after Mississippi State,” said Sherrill, who was forced out at Texas A&M in 1988 after the school’s football program received harsh sanctions from the NCAA. [...]

Go Trey!

Saturday, June 12th, 2004

According to the Commercial Appeal, MSU trackster Trey Hardee “sits in second place going into the final five events of the decathlon at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas. The sophomore earned 4,198 points on Friday, only 34 points behind leader Ryan Harlan of Rice with 4,232.” Good luck, Trey.

Lawrence Roberts in Chicago.

Friday, June 11th, 2004

From NBA.com:
There were no real standouts in the day’s final game, although some of the week’s more intriguing storylines involve players from both teams, most notably Delonte West of St. Joseph’s, Chris Duhon of Duke and Lawrence Roberts of Mississippi State….Roberts, who like West, is trying to play his way into the first round, scored [...]

He said it.

Thursday, June 10th, 2004

From today’s Clarion Ledger:
“We should be better next year,” Polk said Wednesday, four days after the Bulldogs were eliminated in the NCAA Tournament. “We won’t be so young next year, so I can’t use that as an excuse.”

Croom visits Packers

Thursday, June 10th, 2004

The AP says Sylvester Croom visited his old team.
First-year Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom brought seven of his staff members to observe practice Wednesday and Thursday.
Croom was the Packers running backs coach for three years before being hired by Mississippi State in December. He has installed a West Coast-style offense with the Bulldogs.
“I thought, [...]
