Ten point win!

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

According to College Football News.
What will happen: MSU will be ready for revenge after blowing last year’s game against the Green Wave. Tulane’s defense doesn’t appear to appreciably better than last year’s porous group while the offense will need a few games to before it gets clicking. It won’t always be pretty, but […]

The Birmingham News looks at all the teams in the CUSA. Here’s what they say about Tulane:
TULANE GREEN WAVE: 2003 RECORD: 5-7, 3-5 C-USA COACH: Chris Scelfo (26-34 at Tulane and career) THE BRIGHT SIDE: The Green Wave took some lumps last season by playing young but talented players on both sides of the […]

Home games in Birmingham. Thanks Miss. voters.

Friday, August 27th, 2004

Because of that stupid state flag and the NCAA’s stupid decision not hold tournaments in states with a stupid flag, MSU now has to hold it’s home games in the Coaches v. Cancer preseason tournament to Birmingham, Alabama. The Clarion-Ledger reports that State found a replacement for the Alaska tournament (Northwestern), allowing it […]

Was the West Coast Offense too hard for Aries Nelson?

Thursday, August 26th, 2004

That’s what Aries’ new head coach Willie Totten implied in the Clarion-Ledger. Totten was Nelson’s high school coach and runs a similar wide-open system at Valley. Totten says, “it won’t be a hard system for him to pick back up.”
These kind of systems are good for putting up gawdy numbers, but do little […]

Welcome banners were placed recently along the north entrance of campus. Note the fencing along the curb to keep you scofflaws from parking on the grass and not giving Larry your parking fees.

Q & A with Rafael Palmeiro

Thursday, August 26th, 2004

Raffy sat down with the Oakland Tribune for a qustion and answer piece. Here’s an excerpt:
Q. You were a three-time All-American at Mississippi State, teammate of Bobby Thigpen, Jeff Brantley and Will Clark. Were you guys dominant?
A. We were. We didn’t win the College World Series, but we did our share of winning. […]

One is the loneliest number.

Former MSU trackster Dion Crabbe was given the honor of lifetime for an Olympic athlete, he carried his country’s flag into the opening ceremony. But who else could’ve carried it? He’s the only athlete representing the tiny island of the British Virgin Islands, an English protectorate.

Stansbury talks about the upcoming season.

Wednesday, August 25th, 2004

Last night, Greenville alumni hosted head coach Rick Stansbury. Coach Stans called his returning team “a pretty good basketball team.” You think, Rick? You’ve got 3 starters back, one whom is a legitimate POTY candidate, plus all your key reserves. We had better be “pretty good.”
Seriously, it seems Rick […]

Tulane names starting QB for State game

Tuesday, August 24th, 2004

Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo has tabbed LSU transfer Lester Ricard as starter for the State game. Ricard is listed as a 6′-5″ sophomore and was highly touted coming out of Amite, La. He saw the hand-writing on the LSU depth chart last fall and transfered to the Green Wave, who graduated senior […]

Croom to appear on ESPN Sportscenter

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

The Charlotte Observer reports that Kirk Herbstreit will be talking to “resurrected” coaches during a segment of Sportscenter. Coach Croom will appear this Wednesday.
Don’t ask me why they consider Croom to be in the same class as disgraced former head coaches, such as Mike Price or George O’Leary.

Dawgystyle from the Sixpack message board posted this pic today on the new uniforms. I hope to goodness this is a hoax. They suck.

More reasons to love Croom

Saturday, August 21st, 2004

Like we need any more, huh? The Clarion-Ledger points out another one.
Sherrill signed good recruiting classes late in his in tenure, in part, by telling the blue-chippers they could play the position they most loved. It worked with Culberson, it worked with others. To be honest, a lot of coaches do this, […]
