Was the West Coast Offense too hard for Aries Nelson?
That’s what Aries’ new head coach Willie Totten implied in the Clarion-Ledger. Totten was Nelson’s high school coach and runs a similar wide-open system at Valley. Totten says, “it won’t be a hard system for him to pick back up.”
These kind of systems are good for putting up gawdy numbers, but do little to develop important QB skills, like making your drops, reading coverages and working on play actions. Nelson may get more playing time, but will do little to improve his pro potential.
