I’m beginning to think there’s not a lot going on in New Hampshire these days. Why else would a third string, Division II QB’s decision to walk-on at a school thousands of miles away merit 2 or 3 feature stories?
I see folk-hero status being attached to young Matt by a segment of the State [...]

According to the MSU Athletic Department’s Media Relations, State has been very fortunate this year. So far there have been no, I repeat, no serious injuries. The main thing affecting the team is the kind of nagging injuries you’d expect with 18-22 year old athletes banging into each other, particularly the offensive linemen. [...]

NBCSports.com columnist Ray Glier see Croom as modern day Buford Pusser, not just cleaning up after Jackie Sherrill. No, Glier thinks Croom could be roaming the Southeast busting up dirty recruiting like Pusser busted up criminals in Central Tennessee. Dig this quote:
The man needs to come back with a bullhorn and a [...]

From AccessNorthGa.com:
“This is the most fun and most rest I’ve had,” Croom said Wednesday during the team’s media day. “I was so glad when football season started. I can actually go in (my office) and watch football film, and not have anybody bothering me. You don’t know how much of a treat that is.”…“He’s taking [...]

According to the Clarion-Ledger, Coach Croom has finally signed his contract. The media seems impressed by the fact there’s a non-compete clause with other league members, effectively making the Bama job a closed issue. I wonder, however, what kind of out Croom has for the pros. Let’s say an NFL job comes [...]

CBS.SportsLine.com - NCAA Football Think Tank: Trio dissects upcoming season:
Darst: Speaking of coaches … which new coach is going to have the most success in his first season?
Dodd: Mike Price and Sylvester Croom. Not much talent at either school, but the fans, communities and players are so jacked about each new coach that at [...]

That’s not good enough for Sylvester Croom.
“We wasted three hours of our time out here,” Croom said. “We might as well have just stayed in bed.”…“I don’t have any idea what happened today,” Croom said. “I know that we don’t know how to win, we’re still in a learning stage here.”
MSU football players are finding [...]

No, you didn’t read that wrong. Marcus Campbell led the SCORE International All Stars to an 89-83 victory over the Dominican national team. Campbell, who’s name is incorrectly listed as Michael on this report from the South Carolina athletics site, scored 28 points and pulled down 15 boards.
Now I know what [...]

According to the Mississippi Press (Pascagoula, MS) the former State wide reciever will begin practicing today as a member of the Grambling Tigers. Because Grambling is a Division I-AA school, Hargro can play immediately (something he never did at State). Antonio’s mother isn’t happy with what happened during Hargro’s tenure at State:
“Antonio [...]

“It was supposed to be like this last year, but they didn’t enforce it,” said senior nose tackle Ronald Fields. “Now it’s a must. There is no walking. And if you make a mistake, you’re going to make it up right on the spot.”
Is there a better description of the previous regimes downfall than that [...]

San Francisco Examiner: Jewels of the summer
Another Raider to watch is Tommy Kelly, a rookie defensive lineman from Mississippi State. Kelly weighs 300-pounds, but has the speed and explosiveness of a much smaller player. Scouts felt that the undrafted Kelly lacked a solid work ethic. He was labeled as an underachiever, but Kelly has impressed [...]

The Clarion-Ledger reports that three signees won’t enroll this year, while three upperclassmen won’t be joinng the team, including Antonio Hargro. The C-L reports Hargro has been dismissed for “unspecified team violations.” To paraphrase an old saying, “If an over-hyped, under-achieving wide receiver is cut, will anyone notice?”
On the good news front, former [...]
