GNO Alumni Dinner report
Here’s a some tidbits I learned at last night’s alumni dinner:
* An indoor practice facility will break ground soon. It will open to all sports including football. It will be large enough to hold a full football practice. Dr. Lee described it as being on par with anything in the league.
* Enrollment is up. Applications for next year are up 39% over last year.
* State will concentrate on doing a better job recruiting students. Lee called it a “retail approach instead of a wholesale approach” meaning we would be more hands on.
* One new dorm is being built, and another will start before the end of the year. Three existing dorms will be razed.
* The city of Starkville is committing a portion of its hotel/restaraunt tax to student activity funding.
* Dr. Lee said malfunction junction will be eliminated before the end of his tenure.
* Dr. Lee is a genuinely nice, funny, sharp guy, who is capable of giving a decent speech, if one is able to get past his sleepy demeanor and strange accent.
Let me sum up Stansbury’s speach:
* We were really good last year and we have a chance to be good this year.
* If Campbell was what we wanted him to be, he’d be in the NBA.
* Gary Ervin needs to find a lower gear and not go all out all the time.
* Edmundson may be our best shooter.
* Charles Rhodes could be the best frosh ever to play at State.
* Ontario Harper may not be what he once was.
* You haven’t seen Power’s best yet. He was still limited last year.
