Pegues needs to grow up. The recruiting of Batesville superstar Derrick Pegues was disgusting at best- and it had nothing to do with the schools that were after him.
Pegues developed a case of the big head after an outstanding season that saw the senior quarterback almost single-handedly take South Panola to its second straight high school state championship.
The talented Mr. Pegues still has a lot of growing up to do, and with him having signed to play for Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State, he’s probably in just the right place for some discipline.
Pegues acted immaturely during the recruiting process near the end, and it riled up quite a few football fans.
He not only kept everyone guessing as to which team he would sign with, he even kept it from his mother until Wednesday. He was quoted as saying that he just wanted to keep everyone on the edge of their seats. Can you imagine a high school senior pulling a power play on responsible adults like that?
It blows my mind, and the fact that he went to Mississippi State instead of Ole Miss makes no difference to me.
After what I’ve seen and heard about the way he acted at Ole Miss, I wouldn’t want the kid no matter how good.
On Pegues’ recruiting visit to Ole Miss last week, he was a no-show with Coach Ed Ogeron and his staff on his final day there. He reportedly slighted the Rebels while over there on a number of occasions and may have done some further damage with other Ole Miss possible signees.
It’s amazing how a kid spurned by the Rebs is now considered a thug and a bad apple. Somehow I doubt, Bubba, or Ole Miss for that matter, would have turned down Pegues’ letter of intent had it been faxed to Oxford. No. They thought he was their’s to lose. Two words, Bubba: “Doug Buckles”
