Diamond Dawg - Arizona preview
The next step is to keep playing their best. That is what the Cats hope to be doing with the next challenge against an unbeaten Bulldogs squad (8-0) from the powerhouse Southeastern Conference, and then against defending national champion California-Fullerton next weekend.
The Wildcats are relying a lot lately on pitching and not hitting. It was supposed to be the other way around. The Wildcats lead the Pac-10 rankings in nearly every offensive category. UA is batting .342, with 46 doubles, nine triples and 21 home runs.
The pitching staff has been the real catalyst, however, with a 3.19 ERA and a league-best 182 strikeouts in 155 innings.
“Going in, considering how young some of our guys are, I was hoping our pitchers would be good enough to keep us in every game and let our hitters have a legitimate shot of winning,” Lopez said. “So far, so good.”
