Poor Mississippi State Basketball
How did Mississippi State become the tortured center of the prep-to-pro phenomenon? For a school with only nine NCAA tournament victories in it’s (ahem) storied past, it has seen more than its share of defections. With Monta Ellis, a sweet-shooting guard out of Jackson Lanier HS, the latest to forgo donning the Maroon and White for the promise of NBA riches, the Bulldogs have now lost three high school recruits to the NBA in the last seven years (Jonathan Bender and Travis Outlaw were the others).
As a comparison, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Syracuse, and North Carolina have lost that many players in that time combined.
I guess you have to tip your hat to MSU coach Rick Stansbury for his recruiting prowess, but once again State fans are left to ponder what might have been.
