Derek Pegues has record setting run
MSU signee Derek Pegues set a record at Saturday’s Alabama-Miss All-Star football game.
The estimated Ladd-Peebles Stadium crowd of 10,000 and All-Star officials will be talking about Pegues’ incredible 72-yard TD run for years to come.
The Mississippi State signee took a handoff from quarterback Jimmy Johns, shook a defender loose, spun around, raced untouched to the end zone, setting the record for the longest run in this All-Star game.
“The guy grabbed me up high and I just shook him off,” Pegues said. My offensive line opened up holes for me, and I just ran through them.”
Hattiesburg offensive tackle Calvin Wilson, who will play with Pegues at Mississippi State next season, has a different perspective on the All-State performer.
“Pegues has the ability to break loose,” Wilson said. “Once Pegues gets through the hole, he’s gone. He will find a hole.”
Pegues knows his skills as a DB give him the best chance to make an NFL roster, however his skills as a tailback may give MSU the best shot at winning.
