Coach Polk On The NCAA
The McComb Enterprise-Journal has coverage of Ron Polk’s appearance at the Tim Kavanay Bulldog Club gathering at Southwest Mississippi Community College.
“At Mississippi State, we have 11.7 scholarships for baseball,” he said. “An NCAA women’s rugby team has more scholarships. Women’s crew has full scholarships. Baseball does not. I’m all for Title IX,” as it relates to the funding for athletic scholarships for men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic programs. “But where is ‘Title X?’ ” he asked, referring to something that is nonexistent. “I’m for a level playing field. It’s reverse discrimination. The SEC tells me to ‘just do the best you can with the scholarships you have.’ The playing field is not level. I know I’m right.
Polk has a long running, much publicized disagreement with the NCAA, especially over the lack of baseball scholarships.
