Practice Sessions Improving for Bulldogs

For at least the third straight practice, Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom spotted progress by his team during Wednesday’s workout.

With State’s season opener against Murray State lurking just 10 days ahead, Croom considered Wednesday’s practice an improvement over Tuesday’s storm-plagued session, one that was better than the day before.

“I thought our concentration level was good and we had some focus,” Croom said. “We worked on a lot of special situations today–things we will see during the game that need to be addressed.”

Croom made it a point to single out some veteran players who returned full-speed to the practice field Wednesday. Wide receivers Will Prosser and Keon Humphries were upgraded from their yellow, limited-contact jerseys to maroon offensive shirts, and first-unit halfback Jerious Norwood was back to his shifty ways.

“I don’t know about them, but it helped my psyche seeing Will and Keon out there,” Croom said. “And it was good to see Jerious back as well. He’s got a lot of rust to knock off, but he’ll be ready.”

The head coach again complimented his defensive front, saying that defensive tackle Antonio Johnson and end Titus Brown were getting great push on pass rush situations. That credit was tempered, however, by his concern that his offensive line was still breaking down on occasion.
