Two minutes, 14 seconds. A small portion of a 60-minute game. But that was all it took to steal any momentum Mississippi State had coming out of the locker room at halftime. All it took to wipe out the effort of an MSU defense that held Alabama without an offensive touchdown.
Quieting bitter Bulldogs’ fans sweetens win for Johns
Former Brookhaven standout Jimmy Johns was roundly booed every time his name was called on the Scott Field loudspeaker here Saturday. Johns, an Alabama freshman who was recruited hard by Mississippi State, heard the boos above the cowbells.
Defense keeps Alabama perfect
The first half of Saturday’s game between fourth-ranked Alabama and Mississippi State set back college football 25 years. Normalcy returned in the second half. Alabama returned a fumble for a touchdown and an interception for another to escape Scott Field with a 17-0 victory over upset-minded Mississippi State.
