Mississippi State senior halfback Jerious Norwood (Brandon, Miss.) has been selected to play in the 2006 Senior Bowl all-star classic, the bowl announced Tuesday.
Norwood, a 6-0, 204-pounder, was selected second-team, all-SEC by both the Associated Press and the league¹s coaches after finishing third in the conference in rushing, averaging 103.3 yards per game. He became MSU’s career rushing leader during the 2005 season (3,222 yards) when he gained 1,136 yards. Norwood became just the second back in MSU history to gain more than 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons, and his 13 career games with more than 100 yards rushing are the most ever at the school. Norwood, who was also named second-team, all-SEC by the AP Monday, was given the Conerly Award last week as the state of Mississippi¹s top college football player.
The Senior Bowl will be played Saturday, Jan. 28, in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will kick off at 3 p.m. CT. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN.
The game features the country’s best senior collegiate football stars and National Football League prospects. The North and South squads are coached by NFL staffs and Senior Bowl practices are attended by over 700 general managers, coaches, scouts and front office personnel from the 32 NFL teams.
