Walter Sharpe To Play For UAB
Walter Sharpe has had a tough year. First, he was kicked off the Mississippi State men’s basketball team for breaking team rules, including missing a flight to California and not joining the team at the NCAA tournament. Once he returned to Birmingham, there were several incidents that kept him in the news, including being shot in the stomach.
Now, it appears that Sharpe will play basketball once again. He announced Friday that he intends to sign and play for Mike Davis, who just took over as coach at UAB.
Sharpe, one of the South’s top basketball recruits after a standout career at Parker High, chose Mississippi State over Alabama and UAB in the spring of 2004. His tumultuous tenure at Mississippi State lasted less than two years. On Friday, Sharpe said he intends to resume his college basketball career at UAB.
