Sports Illustrated/Athlon has posted their preview of the 2006 Mississippi State football team. This is another great look at how our team looks leading up to the season opener with South Carolina. I especially love this quote from Coach Croom:

Two years of 3-8, this is the last time for that. I’ve been patient, and my patience has worn out. When I came here, I knew it was going to take time to build a positive attitude. Now, I’m tolerating nothing. Anybody or anything that gets in the way of us winning is going to get eliminated.

I agree with most of what they say. The offense will really have to step it up this year, and even though Jerious Norwood is gone, we have a pretty deep backfield with Brandon Thornton, Derek Ambrose and Anthony Dixon. Tony Burks and Omarr Connor will be great at the wide receiver slot, complimented nicely by Keon Humphries and Will Prosser.

Henig should have a good grasp of the playbook after starting 3 games last year and working as the starter throughout the spring.

On defense, Culberson will need some help behind the line, and hopefully Chaney and O’Neal are up to the task.
