Justin Jenkins Looking For Spot On Eagles Roster
Former Mississippi State player Justin Jenkins signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2004. Since then, he has been confined to the practice squad, thanks in some part to a torn ACL.
It was T.O.’s book that has helped put Justin in a little bit of a spotlight lately. In the acknowledgements of his book, Owen’s thanks those teammates that supported him, then goes on to single out Correll Buckhalter, Todd Pinkston and “especially” Justin Jenkins.
Now, fresh off a season of rehab for his torn ACL, which happened when his foot got caught in the turf during the opening kickoff of a preseason game, Jenkins is looking to make a spot for himself on the Eagles roster this year. Many of the news sources that cover the Eagles are guessing that Jenkins is probably “competing for a fifth wide-receiver job behind Pinkston, Reggie Brown, Jabar Gaffney and Greg Lewis, but there’s no reason he can’t move up the depth chart again.”
In their daily update on the Eagles practice sessions, the Philadelphia Inquirer had this to say about Justin:
Wide receiver Justin Jenkins has been turning heads the first few days. Jenkins, who missed last season with a torn ACL, beat Lito Sheppard on a deep pass from Donovan McNabb during the morning practice.
