Coach Croom at SEC Media Days
Just finished watching the Coach Croom interview from SEC Media Days. Here are a few highlights:
- Henig is doing well with his toe injury. Will not participate in conditioning tests, but will participate in practice when those start up next wednesday. Is THE quarterback going into the season.
- Talked about his decision to bring Henig to Media Days. “The reason he is here is because he’s the quarterback…He is the guy representing me out there.”
- Will not try to replace Norwood because you “just don’t replace a guy like that.” We will run the ball different this year because Thornton and Ambrose have different styles.
- Thornton is not a great back in any one area, but is very good at lots of things: protecting the ball, excellent hands, can line up as a receiver in the slot, a better inside power runner.
- Passing game may open up some areas that were closed to Norwood because we couldn’t throw the ball as well.
- Three Juco players that are expected to make a big impact: Tim Bailey, J.D. Hamilton and Ryan Mason.
- Strongest part of team: Defense. More depth this year.
- Weakest part of team: Kicking. Not really weak, just a concern.
- “We are M-State”. First time I have heard a coach refer to us that way.
If you want to watch the whole interview, al.com has the video on their Media Days site.
