Greg Huxman Earns Spot In U.S. Amateur Championship

STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the second consecutive year, Mississippi State University will be represented in the 106th United States Amateur Golf Championship. Rising senior Greg Huxman qualified for the event at the Don Shula Hotel and Golf Club near his hometown of Miami, Fla. He fired a two-day total of 139 to advance to the championship.
Last year, MSU head coach Clay Homan earned a berth into the Amateur Championship in Ardmore, Pa. He will try for a repeat performance at his qualifying event at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Miss. In the coming weeks.
The 2006 U.S. Amateur will be contested on Aug. 21-27 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Hazeltine GC has played host to the 1991 U.S. Open and the 2002 PGA Championship.
Huxman has been active on the links this summer, finishing 11th in the Florida Amateur field and playing in other events throughout the region. He concluded the Florida Am with a final-round 68. As a junior last season, he played in three events and posted two to-ten finishes.
