The new Cullis Wade Depot opened its doors Tuesday with the opening of the Barnes & Noble Bookstore. A Welcome Center and Clock Museum will also open soon.

A college student bought a business management textbook upstairs, someone else ordered a chocolate Oreo brownie from the Starbucks bakery and coffee shop and dozens more of the curious experienced a ride on Oktibbeha County’s first escalator.

It all came together Tuesday without much advertising as Barnes & Noble book store opened on Mississippi State University’s campus.

The book store and other changes to the western part of campus will serve as an attractive welcome to visitors, campus officials say. Just south of the Davis-Wade Football Stadium, a once-chaotic thoroughfare has been transformed into The Junction, a green space where alumni, students and others will tailgate at during football season.
