Mississippi State freshmen Anthony Dixon, Craig Jenkins and Jamon Hughes have been selected to the Freshman All-Southeastern Conference football team, the league office announced Thursday.
Dixon, 6-1, 235-pound true freshman running back from Jackson, Miss., rushed 169 times for 668 yards, a 4.0-yard per carry average, and nine touchdowns during his first year on campus. His attempts, yards and rushing TDs were all true freshman rushing records at Mississippi State. Dixon’s nine rushing touchdowns were the most by a Bulldog in six years.
Jenkins, a 6-4, 319-pound redshirt freshman offensive tackle from Pearl, Miss., started all 12 games for the Bulldogs at right offensive tackle. He played every snap in five games, and graded out at 80 percent or better 10 times.
Hughes, a 6-0, 230-pound true freshman linebacker from Rolling Fork, Miss., recorded 17 tackles and a pass deflection in the nine games he played. He missed the first three games of the season while rehabbing a hamstring injury. Hughes earned one starting assignment during his first season in Starkville.
Kentucky, with four selections, was the only league school with more players named to the Freshman All-SEC team than Mississippi State.
