Tulane Game Notes

Get the official Game Notes: MSU, Tulane

Mississippi State goes on the road this weekend against Tulane in New Orleans. Michael Henig is expected to be the starter, but Croom has already talked about playing the QB that will give us the best chance to win, whether it is Henig, Riddell, or Carroll.

Riddell is currently listed at #3 on the QB depth chart, but that should change once he gets back into practice this week. Aside from Henig, Riddell is the only QB with any game experience. He also looks like the better QB on paper. At Foothills College in California, he threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in two years.

There isn’t much to go on with Tulane. This weekend will be their first game under a new coach and new offensive scheme. Bob Toledo’s most recent coaching gig was at UCLA, where he led the Bruins to 2 PAC 10 titles. The offense features a new quarterback in a system that will probably WCO based. The biggest strength is probably running, led by Matt Forte.

The defense returns 8 starters and 20+ lettermen. Last year, they gave up 33.3 points and almost 400 yards per game.

This year, Tulane is picked to finish near the bottom of CUSA.

This should be a breakout game for our team, allowing the offense to really get some plays in and our defense to continue to improve.
