Zack Harrington Returns
Kyle Veazey and Gregg Ellis both posted on their blogs yesterday that Zack Harrington was back at practice yesterday, less than a week after quitting the team.
Veazey has thrown a little more light on the situation today with a report that after the USC game, the started receiving text messages and phone calls from his former teammates asking him to come back.
Zack was a walk-on player. He transferred to Mississippi State from Southeast Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. I think he was listed as #4 on the depth chart behind Henig, Carroll and Riddell. Seeing that he probably wouldn’t get a chance to play, he decided to focus more on his academics and left the team.
Now that Henig is out until at least next weekend, and Riddell is out for the season with a torn ACL, Harrington is back in the mix as the #3 QB on the depth chart behind true freshmen Wes Carroll and Chris Relf.
The ideal situation here would be that Harrington would move up to #2 after practice this week and we can keep Relf on the bench and end up red shirting him to give him more time to develop as a QB.
Not much is known about Harrington. He played high school ball at Oak Grove in Hatteisburg, MS and originally signed with Southeast Louisiana after graduating in 2005. After Hurricane Katrina, he enrolled as a student at Pearl River CC, never playing football, and then enrolled at MSU in 2006 and walked on the team as QB.
