Chris Garrett Commits to Mississippi State
Apparently the Tupelo High junior was at the Mississippi State vs. Tennessee game Saturday and verbally committed to the Bulldogs following the game. Gregg Ellis has the scoop in today’s Daily Journal.
On the year, he has completed 56 of his 85 passes for 929 for 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He’s led the Golden Wave to a 6-1 ledger, the school’s best start in 10 years. On Friday, he’ll lead Tupelo against powerhouse South Panola, which has a nation-leading 67-game win streak.
Even though Garrett is only a junior, the 6-foot-4, 220 pound QB is one of the top junior recruits in the state and the nation. He has also received cleared from Tupelo High officials to finish school in December of 2008. That means he can enroll at State in January of 2009 and begin practicing with the team in the spring and learning the offense.
Other top junior QBs in the state include Tyler Russell of Meridian High and Clayton Moore of Louisville.
