Avery Hannibal selected as SEC Defensive Player of the Week
Mississippi State Defensive End Avery Hannibal has been selected as the SEC defensive player of the week for his performance in the Bulldogs victory over the Kentucky Wildcats.
What was the defensive plan going into the game Saturday?
“Our goal was to stop the run and get into his face and knock off his (Andre’ Woodson) rhythm. My
personal goal was to stay in his face the whole time and not let him play his game. I wanted to let
him know that I was there.” DE Avery Hannibal
- Hannibal had five tackles, including a game-best three for losses (-8 yards), two of which were quarterback sacks in Mississippi State’s 31-14 win at Kentucky.
- Both of his sacks came in the second half as State protected a first-half lead. The first came on a 3rd-and-12 play early in the third quarter and the second came on a 1st-and-10 on UK’s next possession.
- Mississippi State’s defense limited Kentucky, which came into the SEC as the league’s total offensive leader (466.5 yards per game) , to 319 total yards, including 89 on the ground.
- Hannibal now has 28 tackles this season, with six for losses, including two sacks.
