Mississippi State DB Derek Pegues was named the Liberty Bowl MVP for his performance during the game. Pegues had 2 picks in the second half. He now has five on the season and 10 in his career as a Bulldog.

He moves into a tie for fifth in the career category (passing Bill Kiser, 1965-67; Emile Petro and Ken Phares, 1970-72 and tying Frank Dowsing, 1970-72; Steve Freeman 1972-74; Kelvin Knight 1990-93 and Fred Smoot 1999-2000).
