The latest men’s basketball polls have been released today, and Mississippi State makes an appearance at #25 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. We are 1 out of the AP poll (#26) with 112 votes. This tells me that people are starting to pay attention to the Bulldogs but aren’t sold on the team yet.

Mississippi State junior guard/forward Jamont Gordon has been selected as a midseason top 30 candidate for this year’s John R. Wooden Award, the nation’s most coveted college basketball award. The announcement was made this weekend by The Los Angeles Athletic Club’s John R. Wooden Award Committee.

Mississippi State has garnered its third and highest preseason national ranking in baseball, picked 23rd in the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches’ poll.

Jamont Gordon was named this weeks SEC Player Of The Week for his performance against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
Averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in wins over Kentucky and Alabama. Shot 61 percent (17-28 FGs) from the field, including 9-of-15 (60%) from beyond the three-point arc.

Jamont Gordon scored 24 points and keyed a late run in Mississippi State’s 66-56 victory over Alabama on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (13-5, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) led by as many as 13 points midway through the second half before Alabama (11-8, 0-4) made a final comeback attempt.

Mississippi State’s Baseball Bulldogs have garnered another preseason national ranking, tabbed 24th in the poll conducted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Arizona State is ranked first in the NCBWA poll, with North Carolina, Rice, South Carolina and Arizona rounding out the top five.

Here is a video feature of Varnado’s triple-double versus Kentucky at The Hump last night. This is only the 3rd triple-double in school history and helped the Bulldogs to their second straight win over Kentucky. This is only the second time in school history that the Bulldogs have back-to-back wins over Kentucky.

Mississippi State University President Dr. Robert H. ‘Doc’ Foglesong announced Monday an extension to the contract of head football coach Sylvester Croom.
The extension requires approval by the Board of Trustees, Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.
The two-year contract extension carries Croom through the 2011 football season. Financial details were not released.
