Louis Campbell Joining Mississippi State Coaching Staff

Various sources around the internet are reporting that outgoing Arkansas defensive coordinator Louis Campbell will not be joining Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, but instead will be joining Sylvester Croom’s staff at Mississippi State.

Some are saying he is coming on board as Linebackers Coach.

Campbell has been serving administrative roles in the Razorback organization for the past few years, stepping in occasionally to serve as DC after coaches left for other jobs. He directed the Arkansas defensive unit during the 2008 Cotton Bowl as interim defensive coordinator.

Campbell certainly has the pedigree for Croom’s staff. While he played college ball at Arkansas, he began his coaching career under Paul “Bear” Bryant at Alabama in 1973. He also coached there for 2 years after serving as a graduate assistant.

The rumor has always been that when/if Ellis Johnson left, he would be taking one or two assitants with him. The hiring of Campbell (if confirmed) means that either that is true or that we are promoting someone from the staff to the defensive coordinator position.
