Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom confirmed Friday that four new student-athletes had enrolled in spring semester classes and would participate in spring football practice, and that one current Bulldog has been added to the scholarship list.
Junior college transfer Phillip Freeman, previous Mississippi State signees Michael Hunt and O’Neal Wilder, and early high school graduate Nelson Hurst began academic work at State this week and will go through spring drills, which are expected to commence Tuesday, Feb. 26. Additionally, rising junior wide receiver Brandon McRae, who walked on the Bulldog program after transferring from Morehead State two years ago, has been awarded a scholarship.
Freeman, a 6-6, 290-pound offensive lineman from Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Community College, played tackle on the junior college level and is from Wesson, Miss. Hunt, a 6-2, 210-pound defensive back from Franklin County High School in Meadville, Miss., and Wilder, a 6-5, 190-pounder from Carthage, Miss., both signed with MSU last February and sat out the fall while completing academic requirements. Hurst, a 6-4, 240-pound tight end, graduated a semester early from Plainfield (Ind.) High School to enroll at State.
McRae, a 6-4, 200-pounder, played in 12 of State’s 13 games last fall, and earned one start at wide receiver. He had two pass receptions for 50 yards on the year.
