Mississippi State standouts Charles Rhodes and Jamont Gordon have been named second-team all-SEC by a preseason vote of the league’s head men’s basketball coaches. The announcement was made Monday by the SEC office headquartered in Birmingham.

Rob Harralson over at BulldogBlitz.com is reporting that Top-10 recruit Scotty Hopson, a small forward from Hopkinsville (Ky.) University Heights Academy has committed to Mississippi State, selecting the Bulldogs over several other schools, including Kentucky and Louisville.

The 2006-07 men’s basketball schedule has been updated to reflect the games that have already been selected for television. Among them are the November 21 game at Clemson, December 11 at Miami and the SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville.

ESPN is reporting that former Louisville forward Brian Johnson has transferred to State. While he is eligible to begin practicing with the squad this season, he will not be eligible to play until the 2007-2008 season.
