Mississippi State University President Dr. Robert H. ‘Doc’ Foglesong announced Monday an extension to the contract of head football coach Sylvester Croom.
The extension requires approval by the Board of Trustees, Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.
The two-year contract extension carries Croom through the 2011 football season. Financial details were not released.

The Mobile Press-Register published a story in today’s paper about the coaching search currently taking place at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile. The story confirms that USA athletic director Joe Gottfried has contacted Mississippi State offensive coordinator Woody McCorvey about their headcoaching position and plans on setting up a more formal meeting.

While there is no official word from MSU Athletics, it seems apparent that Mississippi State defensive secondary coach Charlie Harbison will be promoted to the defensive coordinator position.

Gregg Ellis is reporting via Houston Nutt (of all people) that Louis Campbell has indeed been hired by Mississippi State to be the linebackers coach. Various sources around the internet are reporting that outgoing Arkansas defensive coordinator Louis Campbell will not be joining Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, but instead will be joining Sylvester Croom’s staff at Mississippi State.

Fox Sports on MSN is reporting that Mississippi State Defensive Coordinator Ellis Johnson has accepted a job on Bobby Petrino’s staff at Arkansas. Coach Croom said on Monday that Johnson informed him of his decision to leave. Arkansas has made no official announcement.

Mississippi State fans traveled well to support their team for the 49th Annual Autozone Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
Along with fans from UCF, a new attendance record of 63,816 was set, beating the previous record of 61,000 which was set in 1991 during the Mississippi State vs. Air Force game.

The MSU Ticket Office released an update on Liberty Bowl Ticket sales today. Apparently, the demand is so high that they are suspending general public ticket orders until after the priority deadline tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.
