The Mississippi State baseball team came out on the short end of an offensive slugfest Saturday at Harmon Stadium. North Florida scored the game’s final 13 runs to take a 17-9 victory in the middle game of a three-game weekend series.

Mississippi State University opened the 2008 baseball season on a positive note with an 8-2 win over the University of North Florida Friday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, home of the Class AA Southern League Jacksonville Suns.

Greg Byrne has been approved by the Mississippi College Board as the next Athletics Director of Mississippi State. Byrne will take over when current AD Larry Templeton retires this summer. Byrne has been serving as associate athletic director for development and external affairs since 2006.

Jamont Gordon contributed at least 20 points for the 11th time this season but could not lift Mississippi State (17-8, 8-3 Southeastern Conference) to a win Wednesday night, as the Bulldogs fell 74-63 on the road to in-state rival Ole Miss (18-7, 4-7).

A chronic hip injury sustained during the 2007 Mississippi State football season has terminated the Bulldog playing career of junior quarterback Michael Henig.
Henig, who suffered the injury during August two-a-days, has been under the initial care of Dr. Rusty Linton of Columbus, Miss., and then hip specialist Dr. Thomas Byrd of Nashville, Tenn.

The latest men’s basketball polls have been released today, and Mississippi State makes an appearance at #25 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. We are 1 out of the AP poll (#26) with 112 votes. This tells me that people are starting to pay attention to the Bulldogs but aren’t sold on the team yet.

Mississippi State junior guard/forward Jamont Gordon has been selected as a midseason top 30 candidate for this year’s John R. Wooden Award, the nation’s most coveted college basketball award. The announcement was made this weekend by The Los Angeles Athletic Club’s John R. Wooden Award Committee.
