Coach Croom In A Hot Seat

David Climer of The Tennessean has published an article ranking the 12 SEC coaches and how hot their seats are coming into the 2006 football season. Coach Croom comes in at #4. The reason?

Sylvester Croom, Mississippi State. He was assured he’d have time to ride out NCAA sanctions before they kept score. But successive 3-8 seasons and an anemic offense are big concerns.

I think this is a valid concern. Coach Croom is definitely making progress with the program, and I think this year will be a good litmus test for how far he can bring us. I think many of the State faithful would be ecstatic to go 5-7 or, even better, 6-6. The defense is the highlight of the team, and the offense is a still a big question mark, even though they showed progress in spring drills.

It will be interesting to see how they stack up when they return to campus in a few weeks.
