Croom visits Packers

The AP says Sylvester Croom visited his old team.

First-year Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom brought seven of his staff members to observe practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Croom was the Packers running backs coach for three years before being hired by Mississippi State in December. He has installed a West Coast-style offense with the Bulldogs.

“I thought, `Hey, rather than me talking about it all the time, I want our coaches to come see the Packer way of doing things,’” Croom said.

Croom, 49, has received national notoriety the past six months because he’s the first African-American head coach for football in Southeastern Conference history.

He said the attention has gotten tiresome, quipping, “I think I’ll get me a sign to just hold up, ‘Yes, I am the first!’”

I’m getting the feeling Coach Croom kinda likes the attention he’s getting.
