Derek Pegues Name SEC Defensive Player of the Week
Mississippi State safety Derek Pegues has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for week 3. This is the second week in a row that an MSU player has taken the honor. Gabe O’Neal earned POTW after his performance against Tulane in week 2.
- Pegues had five total tackles, an interception and a pass deflection in Mississippi State’s 19-14 win at Auburn.
- Pegues returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead.
- The interception was the sixth of his career and a school-record third that he has returned for a score.
- Miss. State allowed just 107 passing yards to Auburn, while forcing the Tigers into three interceptions.
Next week, Mississippi State plays a home game against Gardner-Webb at Scott Field. Game time is set for 6pm.
