Fire Croom Now

UPDATE: CROOM RESIGNS

I think this picture says it all.

Mississippi State fans are tired. Tired of losing. Tired of having the worst offense in the SEC and one of the worst in the nation. Tired of having a stubborn head coach who is unwilling to change “his” offense when it is clear that it is not working. Tired of seeing other teams achieve in 1 or 2 years under a new coach what we have yet to acheive in 5.

Today seems to be the final straw for many. Croom & co. looked completely and utterly bewildered at what was happening to them on the field. Croom even said so in his post-game press conference with reporters – a group he seems to get more and more agitated with everytime they meet.

They came in here with the idea they were going to kick our rear ends and they did that from start to finish,” Croom said. “Why what happened today occurred, I’m sorry to say, is an absolute mystery to me. We were challenged from the time the game started and we didn’t respond with the kind of intensity I would expect our football team to respond with. To say the least, I didn’t see that one coming. Hopefully, I can learn something from this one as well.”

Sorry, but those are not the words of an SEC-caliber head coach.

Before today’s game, I think a majority of fans would have been able to stomach another season with Croom at the helm as long as changes were made to the staff – especially the offense and special teams. I think that time has passed.

The coming days will be interesting to say the least. Will Greg Byrne make the decision that thousands hope he can and show Croom the door, or will he try to smooth things over with forced changes to the staff that Croom has said repeatedly that he is unwilling to make?

He seemed to do the right thing in hiring Cohen, going against the wishes of Ron Polk and getting who he thought was the best man for the job.

Will he do the same for the football program?
