Grey Byrne Press Conference
The video from Greg Byrne’s press confernence concerning the resignation of Sylvester Croom is now live for anyone to see. You can watch or listen to the press conference.
According to the press conference:
- Mississippi State will honor the buyout terms of Croom’s contract
- Rocky Felker will take over the day-to-day operations of the team
- The assistants are still under contract and are expected to continue to represent MSU
- Byrne took the NCAA compliance test and is now a certified recruiter
- Byrne will begin contacting MSU recruits to make sure they know that State will honor its commitments to them.
What are they looking for in the next head coach?
- Someone with high energy
- A passion for recruiting
- Strong work ethic
- An understanding of the SEC (not exactly experience)
- Intesity and energy level and continue what Croom has built on and take it to a higher level.
A short-list has already materialized among the message boards and forums, and it includes
- Chris Petersen at Boise State
- Turner Gill at U of Buffalo
- Tommy Bowden
- Skip Holtz at East Carolina
- Kevin Wilson at Ok. State (OC)
We will see who ends up coming to Starkville for the job, but most fans seem to think that the job is Petersen’s to lose. He and Byrne are supposedly good friends.
