Looking Back: Will Clark
With Will Clark’s recent induction into the College Baseball Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class, many people are looking back at his career at Mississippi State and what made him one of 9 players out of tens of thousands to be selected for this inaugural induction class.
This Clarion-Ledger article features interviews with Ron Polk and Chris Maloney, who was the #1 first baseman when Clark decided to come to State rather than go to the majors as a 4th round pick out of high school.
Clark was “The Natural” before Bernard Malamud ever wrote him or Robert Redford ever played him. Clark hit 61 home runs in 175 games and compiled a school-record .391 career batting average, including a .420 batting average in 1985 when he helped lead State to a school-best third place finish in the NCAA College World Series.
The Commercial Dispatch takes a look at both Clark and Rafael Palmeiro, who were on the same freshman team at State. He talks about the differences between the news on both right now, with one being part of this inaugural class and the other in the news for less-than-savory topics of interest.
Will Clark and nine others were inducted into the inaugural class of the College Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday, while Rafael Palmeiro continued to be linked to the steroids issue in major league baseball.
The Sun Herald also has a nice, quick look back at Clark’s time at MSU.
