Wow. Just, wow.

As I recover from the embarrasment of losing to a WAC team in front of a non-sell out crowd in a game that should have never been played away from Scott Field, here are my thoughts on this game.

We looked pretty good in the first half. We had some plays on offense that had not been used in a while, like the quick hit to Bell on the left. We were also running the ball well against them with Dixon. I don’t want to say that offense was terrible, but you can’t effectively manage a game on 5 turnovers.

Those turnovers, especially the errors on special teams and our terrible punter really hurt us. The defense tired quickly when the offense would go 3 and out and our offense started to panic and moved away from what was working, which was running Dixon straight down their throat.

The defense definitely suffered from not having Pegues on the field. He is a playmaker and can always make an impact. The offensive line couldn’t seem to pick up a blitz for anything. That could be attributed to the last minute change of positions for Melchair and Salsbury.

All in all, an ok performance that was made worse by too many turnovers, terrible special teams play, and the same ol’ same ol’ on offense.

Also, what in the world was Tyson Lee doing in the game? Sure, Wesley Carroll was having problems, but he has won SEC games and road games. Lee is a former JUCO QB and walk on. Even if he had the hot hand, you have to go with experience when you are down in the 4th and trying to come back.

The next game is at home (thank goodness) against Southeastern Louisiana. I am sure there will be plenty of tickets available for the game.
