This time it’s SI’s Stewart Mandel. He’s picked up on Coach Croom’s emphasis on education:

His staff receives daily reports on each player’s class attendance, and no player can live off campus unless he maintains at least a 2.2 grade-point average. Anyone who skips class does 5 a.m. detention runs.

“The idea of not going to school in my house? My dad would spank you raw,” Croom said. “We had the value of education hammered into us at an early age. There was never any question we were going to college.”
