MSU - Auburn Friday Linkage

Being that I am a Mississippi State fan living in Birmingham AND Auburn is traveling to Starkville AND it is the first SEC game for both teams, linkage is not hard to come by. Here is today’s run down.

Mobile (Blount High) native and MSU WR Aubrey Bell gets a nice feature article in the Mobile Press-Register today. He was actually projected to come to Starkville as a safety.

Bell’s college experiment at safety was short-lived. He was moved back to receiver before the 2005 season started and has been steadily working his way into more and more playing time. After making 24 catches for 362 yards and a touchdown entering the season, Bell currently ranks second on the team with eight catches for 81 yards and is hoping to go out with a bang in his senior year.

Senior safety Keith Fitzhugh paid tribute to Jamar Chaney in the SELA game by wearing his number 22, but he will return to his number 1 jersey this week. Fitzhugh wears it in honor of his sister who passed away. The Commercial Dispatch has a great article on that.

It looks like Scott Field is going to be sporting new endzone paint for the SEC home opener. You can check out an in-progess photo on the Mississippi State Athletics photo blog (sorry, “phlog” is just too weird a word to use).

RealFootball365.com has a short article about our recent supply of 4- and 3-star recruits, including the 11 3-star recruits that we have verbal commitments from already for next year. They also say we need to keep winning to keep some of these recruits like Josh Boyd, Montrell Conner, Fletcher Cox, Patrick Patterson and Chris Smith.

As for Auburn, it looks like they are shuffling receivers a little bit. “They have had 4 receivers miss at least one of the first 2 games this season”. The Birmingham News has the story.

Tommy Tubberville is also happy with the improvement in Chris Todd’s arm strength and expects to see it continue to improve as the season moves on.

Auburn is also working on not fumbling the ball as much. They fumbled 3 times last week against Southern Miss. Assistant Coach Eddie Gran is working on fixing it after Ben Tate, Brad Lester and Eric Smith each had a fumble.
