Political correctness strikes MSU.

The Tupelo Daily Journal’s Gregg Ellis has an article about the NCAA forbidding MSU from hosting a preseason basketball tournament this fall. Because of the Confederate symbol on Mississippi’s flag, the NCAA is envoking a 2001 rule prohibiting State from hosting a “pre-determined” sanctioned events.
I’m not sure what to think about this. It’s a shame that politics keep State from benefiting from this event, but on the other hand it’s time for Mississippi to move forward. I voted for the new flag proposed in 2001, but I honestly wasn’t that upset when it failed. Maybe it’s time to revisit the subject again, this time with a better alternative - one that honors the past without the baggage of contraversial symbols.
