Tuberville Out At Auburn – MSU Rumor Mill In Full Effect
So Tommy Tubberville’s days on the Plain are over. Even before it was officially announced there were already rumors that he would be moving to Starkville. They are still going around. Will it happen?
You have to take several things into account. First, the whole pine box saga back in 1998. Tuberville basically said the only way he was leaving Ole Miss was in a pine box. The next week, he was introduced as head coach of Auburn. Lots of folks in Mississippi (even MSU fans) thought that was wrong and have never really liked him since.
Second, Greg Byrne has already said he wanted to bring in a coach that would open up the offense. Tuberville is a defense guy, so even if he did come in, it would need to be with the right offensive coordinator to accomplish the goals that Byrne has apparently set.
Even if Tuberville were to come to Mississippi State, how would the fans react?
So the Bulldog faithful are still in “wait and see” mode, but there is a new sense of urgency with another opening in the SEC West to contend with.
