STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom announced Friday that Christian Ducre (DOO-cree) had been admitted to the university and would begin practicing with the 2006 Bulldog football team.
Ducre, a 6-0, 200-pound native of Mandeville, La., signed a scholarship and redshirted his true freshman season at Tulane in 2005. He transferred to MSU when Tulane dropped his computer science major. A first-team, Class 5A all-state running back while leading Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville to the state semifinals in ’04, Ducre rushed for 1,202 yards and scored 13 touchdowns during that senior season. Ducre, in fact, joined his new teammates one hour into a two-hour, 45-minute practice in shoulder pads Friday after undergoing a physical and finishing some last-minute paperwork. It was the Bulldogs’ third practice of camp, their first in shells. State will work in shoulder pads again Saturday before taking Sunday off. The team dons full pads for the first time Monday.
