Mississippi State forward Walter Sharpe has regained his academic eligibility and could play this weekend against Troy, school officials said Friday.
Sharpe missed seven games during the fall semester because he failed to make sufficient progress during the 2004-2005 academic year, but he passed 17 credit hours of classes and is back on track to earn a degree, said David Boles, Mississippi State associate athletic director for student services. Stansbury did not immediately return a telephone call from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Sharpe, a 6-foot-9 sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., averaged 2.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in nearly 9 minutes per game. He said during the summer that he would transfer before reconsidering and taking classes to regain his eligibility.
