Mississippi State senior defensive end Willie Evans (Waynesboro, Miss.) has been named third-team, all-America by the Associated Press at defensive end, the national wire service announced Tuesday.

Evans, a 6-2, 270-pounder, led the Southeastern Conference in tackles for loss (21) and quarterback sacks (15), and was second among all defensive linemen in total tackles (5.5 per game). His sack tally was ranked third nationally.

Evans was one of only 12 SEC players named to the AP teams, and joined LSU’s Kyle Williams and Tennessee’s Jesse Mahelona as the conference’s defensive linemen representatives.

He concluded his career with 47.5 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks, the latter figure ranking third all-time at State.
